Performances are scheduled for two weekends– Feb. 23\, 24\, 25\, and March 1\, 2\, and 3\, 2024. \n“Radium Girls” is based on a true story from the 1920s\, when radium was hailed as a miracle cure and luminous watch dials were a craze. The action follows a watch dial painter who has contracted a mysterious illness as she struggles with her employer\, her family\, and public opinion for recognition and justice. \nThis fast-paced\, highly theatrical play explores the intersection of science and culture and celebrates the resiliency of the human spirit. Fans of historic film and TV dramas such as “Call the Midwife\,” “Hidden Figures\,” and “Erin Brockovich\,” are sure to be inspired by “Radium Girls.” \nThe play features roles for 9 to 20 actors ages 15 and older who play more than 30 characters\, including watch factory co-workers and friends\, lovers\, relatives\, attorneys\, scientists\, consumer advocates\, and myriad bystanders. Interested stage crew members are also invited to attend auditions. \nDirector Stephanie Jones moved to Bandon two years ago and joined the Bandon Playhouse board of directors in 2023. She has more than 30 years experience in professional theatre as a costume designer and costume shop manager. One of her most significant and favorite theatrical experiences was filling the role of Artistic / Managing Director for Pacific Okinawa Players\, a community theater group on the military bases in Okinawa\, Japan. Stephanie believes every community deserves theatre\, art\, music and dance. In directing “Radium Girls” with Bandon Playhouse\, Stephanie is excited to get more involved in the community and help spread her love of the arts. \nBandon Playhouse has provided the best in community theater\, from classic musicals to premiere works by new playwrights\, since 1976. Bandon Playhouse volunteers are proud to keep the performing arts alive and accessible on the Southern Oregon Coast. SUMMARY:Haley Johnsen in Concert– Canceled
DESCRIPTION:The Haley Johnsen concert scheduled for October 20 has been canceled due to illness. \nBandon Showcase will reschedule this event at a later date. Thank you for your support! \n\nBandon Showcase is pleased to present Haley Johnsen in concert on Friday\, October 20\, 7:30 p.m. at the Sprague Community Theater. \nHaley Johnsen is a Portland\, Oregon-born musician with a knack for genre-bending pop\, rock and folk music. Her bona fide songwriting\, combined with her performance style\, is bound to evoke an emotional response. \nBandon Showcase is offering this event as a gift\, free to the community. The concert is an opportunity for Bandon Showcase to say thank you to our community for more than 20 years of support. It’s also our invitation for new audience members to experience how Bandon Showcase brings performing arts fans and performers together at the Sprague Community Theater in Bandon\, Oregon. \nGeneral admission seating for this free event is on a first-come\, first-served basis\, so audience members are encouraged to arrive early. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Unlike previous Showcase events\, specific seats cannot be reserved in advance and tickets will not be issued for this concert. For more information\, call 541-290-9989. \nHaley Johnsen says\, “I want my music to encourage people to push through their challenges and continue to have hope and believe in themselves and their authenticity.” \nHaley’s showmanship is electric\, earnest\, and wholeheartedly endearing. Audiences can be sure to leave Haley’s shows with smiles on their faces while wiping tears from their eyes. \nAfter reaching the top 24 in American Idol televised season 11 in 2012\, Haley committed herself to songwriting and released her first EP in 2015. Since then\, she has toured with Big Wild and KT Tunstall\, including and opening performance for Brandi Carlilie at Portland’s Moda Center. \nHer latest 2022 full length 12 track album\, “Goner\,” was written and recorded during the peak of the pandemic. An American Songwriter review describes the album as “(cascading) over loss and grief and mending one’s soul in nostalgic drips of time\, all carried by ’80s-tipped synth-pop and brushes of reflective ballads. Her entire catalog of music as well as her showmanship promises to be quirky\, dramatic\, soft\, inspirational\, eclectic\, and fun.” Kinda like Haley Johnsen herself. \nLearn more about Haley at HaleyJohnsenMusic.com. \nThis program is offered with local support from Bandon Inn. Complimentary refreshments during intermission are sponsored by Coastal Mist Fine Chocolates & Desserts and by Edgewaters Restaurant. Visit BandonShowcase.org to learn more about our programs and concerts and to subscribe to email updates.
